- January 26, 1 p.m.: Lake Union "Chili Row" departing from Sunnyside Ramp. RSVP to Bob Dunshee, 206-322-8846.
The Sunnyside Ramp public boat launch is located at the intersection of Sunnyside Avenue North and North Northlake Way. See the maps to the ramp and to Dunshees (bigger maps below!).
From Bob Dec 14:Marcia and I will be pleased to host the Chili Row on Lake Union again this year. Saturday, January 26, 2008
We propose that participants meet at the Sunnyside ramp at the north end of Lake Union to launch at about 1 p.m. Parking across the street from the ramp is back-in only. We have done it with our trailer many, many times. There are usually plenty of parking places, especially this time of year. We propose to row/sail/paddle clockwise around Lake Union, then come back to our house for chili at about 3:30 p.m. Bring your own drinks, please. Guests are welcome of course.
There is also usually plenty of parking on the street by our house.
Those of you (or your guests) who would like to come just for the chili are quite welcome.
May we also suggest that you RSVP to the list serve? That way others will know who’s coming and that might be useful information for them as well as for Marcia and me. Our phone number is 206 322 8846. Our address is 2600 E. Helen St. The house is a small shingle cabin on the northeast corner of 26th Ave. E. and E. Helen St.
After leaving the ramp (which is at the foot of Sunnyside Avenue), I suggest driving to our house by way of the Montlake Bridge rather than the University Bridge: it’s somewhat difficult to merge with traffic on the approach to the University Bridge. Either way will work however.
Below are 3 more maps which will show the location of our house and a suggested route from the ramp:

For those that have not been to this messabout, a little more info:
Each year we host an overnight messabout here at TRAMAC. Jane, Tom and I provide everything for the weekend: food, drink, water to play on or in, and lots of nice fireside visiting. We have extra boats for the boat challenged, even one with a motor!
We have lots of room for tents, trailers and RVs. We have a boat ramp for launching boats. Larger sailboats might be a problem if the masts are not down.
The shop has a full bathroom facility. Some folks may even choose to camp out in the shop. Dogs and kids are welcome, but there are deer and other critters that may tempt the dogs.
RSVP's would be helpful so we have an idea how many to expect, BUT last minute drop ins are OK! We know how plans get muffed. Any questions, please give us a call at 360-426-1012 or e-mail.
From Susanne March 27:We are located a half mile from the Fair Harbor Marina on Case Inlet, which has a free paved public launch ramp adjacent to it. Here at the house we can launch small hand-carried craft and small trailered boats. Larger boats can launch at Fair Harbor and come around the point to our place.
Low tide is in mid morning, so we were thinking people could assemble around noon. Depending on wind and weather we have several options for destinations - a couple of neighboring coves, the town dock at Allyn, Stretch Point State Park (no facilities), Fair Harbor, or for the hardy and adventurous, Vaughn Bay. In the late afternoon, we thought we would have a barbecue here - we'll provide burgers, dogs, buns, chips and sodas, and folks could bring side dishes to share, if they want. High tide is late afternoon, and it will be light until late, so we'll have lots of hours for boating and fun.
We'll be in the middle of a restoration of a cold-molded International 14, plus we probably will not have delivered the Rangeley Lake Boat and St Lawrence River Skiff we are currently working on.
This year's TSCA annual meeting will be held in St. Michael's along with the annual Mid-Atlantic Small Craft Festival.
For information and updates, see the TSCA Events page or contact Cricket Evans at qtule@yahoo.com or 510-652-2034 (for TSCA meeting info).
Lake Washington will be several feet lower than in summer, so hand-launched boats are preferred. The ramp is normally usable for shallow-draft boats, though.
I will bring a pot of curry. Bring any other food/drinks you may want.

- January 20, 1 PM Lake Union "Chili Row" departing from Sunnyside Ramp. RSVP to Bob Dunshee, 206-322-8846.

Just want to let you know that my dory project has reached a milestone. The hull is complete and I now need help lifting it off of the jig. I would like to invite interested TSCA members to the "Turning Party" Saturday, March 10 at 11 am at my Snohomish home. It will be just an hour or two, with refreshments.
Honoring the ancient traditions of boat launches there will be a boat baptism, photo opportunities and boat rides for as many as we can. For those of you interested in heaving the boat into the water, we suggest boots or total disregard for getting wet to your calves.
Bowman Bay is a wonderful picnic spot with a great view into the Straits and lots of picnic tables, so you can combine the launch with your outing for the day. Friends of friends are always welcome.
It's the Northwest, so we don't have to dwell on the need to dress for the weather. Formal attire is not expected.
A one way, 13-mile, drift/row/paddle trip down the Sammamish River/slough from a canoe put-in under the Redmond Way bridge to the Kenmore public boat ramp on 68th Ave, just off Bothell Way. Only for light craft, canoes, kayaks or small hand-launched dinghies. There is limited shore access, and a sack lunch and ample drinking water would be a good idea. The trip should take under 4 hours, depending on current.
Midway (6 1/4 miles) there is a grassy shore at Woodinville’s Wilmot-Gateway Park with restrooms, drinking fountain and a picnic shelter, with shore access available for restroom, water and fast food next door.
Suggest unloading our craft at the parking lot at the put-in (parking lot fills on week ends). Some will want to drive cars to take-out, so we will need to fine-tune the shuttle arrangements. Initial plan is to deposit boats at the put-in at 10 AM and allow an hour to shuttle autos to the take-out and ‘hitch’ a ride back to launch planned for 11 AM.

This year's TSCA annual meeting will be held in San Francisco, just prior to the Sacramento River Delta Gunkhole trip. Plan a weekend for the meeting and other festivities, and/or join in on the 5-day gunkhole trip the following week.
For information and updates, see the TSCA Events page or contact Bill Doll at bill_doll@nps.gov or 415-859-6779 (for the gunkhole trip), or Cricket Evans at qtule@yahoo.com or 510-652-2034 (for TSCA meeting info).
June 23, 10:30 AM: Hope Island, South Sound -- RSVP to Paul deRoos, 206-526-5361 or pcderoos@yahoo.com.
By leaving Seattle at 8:30 am we'll arrive at the Arcadia ramp (near Shelton) around 10:30. The ramp is concrete and the tides on Saturday are relatively mild, low at 8:09am and the afternoon high 2:04pm. The trip to Hope Island is a short one and arriving late is not a problem, or spend the extra time with aimless paddling, rowing, sailing, or walking the island (a state park, with r estroom facilities). We'll have clam chowder and bread around 1, please bring what you'd like to drink. Beer makes great ballast. RSVP if you like chowder or if you'd like directions to the Arcadia boat ramp.
The boat ramp is 90 miles from Seattle and can be found by using Mapquest.com for 9500 SE Lynch Road, Shelton, WA.
Updates from Tuck Sep 13:Fox Island is located just south of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. Linda and I have a beach house located on the south shore of Fox Island about mid-island. The address is
675 Kamus Drive
Fox Island, WA 98333
253-549-2560Saturday Sep 15 offers moderate tide change, and times that would facilitate a successful day on the water. High tide 10' at 8:45 AM with a moderate low of 4+ at about 2:20 PM. High tide again at about 10' around 8:00 PM. The south shore is protected from the prevailing northerly that time of year so sailing may be difficult, though who can predict the wind!
The plan is to meet and launch at the cabin. We have a ramp that is good except at low tide. We might have to haul the boats up the gravel a bit to the end of the ramp in the afternoon, depending on the time and state of the tide. Yahoo Maps or Mapquest will find the address.
Lake Washington will be several feet lower than in summer, so hand-launched boats are preferred. The ramp is normally usable for shallow-draft boats, though.
I will bring a pot of curry. Bring any other food/drinks you may want.
From Gary Powell Nov 27:
The park is the Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park at 319 2nd Ave S. (www.nps.gov/klse).
So it's 10am, the room is downstairs, there is a expected late start for those arriving by ferry.
Every meeting needs an agenda so here is my working suggestion:
1) Plan outings
1a) Local Chapter Dues... Do we need to collect any for next year?
1b) Elect officiers! Remember you don't have to attend to be nominated and selected!
2) Adjourn to the Central Baking Company for lunch?Bring:
1) Photos!
2) Stories!
3) Charts!
4) Tide Table for 2008!If you can't make it but still want to "host" something let me know and we'll pencil you in. Remember "hosting" can be as lavish as the spread at Tuck & Linda's or "meet me at the dock at 11am... lets go boating! I've got a bag of chips."

Meet at the Sunnyside ramp to launch about 1 p.m. We will row/sail/paddle clockwise around Lake Union, then come back to our house for chili at about 3:30 p.m. Guests are welcome, of course.
Kayak Point Park is 13 mi northwest of Marysville, off Marine Drive (I-5 Exit 199). From the north, you can use Exit 212 (Hwy 532, Stanwood) or Exit 206 (Hwy 531, Lakewood/Smokey Point),then drive west to Marine Drive and south to Kayak Point. Descriptions of the park are available at the Snohomish County Parks Dept web site, and maps are here and here.

July 29 - NOON launch: Waterman Point, Rich Passage -- this one is for hand-launched (or easily carried) boats only. RSVP to Mike Ellis, 360-769-3972.
Hand launch at Rich Cove and proceed to Illahee State park for lunch. Return to Rich Cove and BBQ at Ellis home on Waterman Point. BBQ starts about 2:30 pm. Picture/map is here.
The South-sound messabout is on, and once again Hope Island will be our destination. We'll meet at the Arcadia Boat Ramp at 10am to launch at the morning high tide. Hope Island is only a short row, paddle, or sail, and if 8am is unrealistic you can arrive later and meet us on the SE side of Hope Island for lunch. As before I'll make clam chowder and lounge on the beach until after the second high-tide at 2pm, which gives plenty of time for further exploring by water or on the island.
The boat ramp is 90 miles from Seattle and can be found by using Mapquest.com for 9500 SE Lynch Road, Shelton, WA. Please RSVP if you like clam chowder. Hope to see you there, Paul and Michelle

The Sunnyside Ramp public boat launch is located at the intersection of Sunnyside Avenue North and North Northlake Way.
The Chili Row will start at 11 AM at the Sunnyside ramp, Saturday, January 8. The row/sail/paddle route is TBD, but will end up at Ivar's, just around the corner, east of Sunnyside ramp, via boat or car. Ivar's dock will be available for our use, so we can resume the on-the-water activities after lunch as well.
From Al, Dec 8 & Jan 29:
Ferry to catch: Edmonds to Kingston - 9:20AM
Assemble at Eglon Ramp - 10:30AM
(Notes: Low tide is at 13:13 PM and is 8.7 feet, which will be ample depth for launching all boats.
Currents will be negligible. Distance is 3 miles.)
Arrive at Point-No-Point by boat - 11:30 AM
Lunch at Al & Annamarie's - 1:00 PM (Annamarie will be making the lunch.)
Tour of shop and "Al's 26" - before or after lunch, depending on when we arrive.
Ramp, beach, dock, picnic shelter, and BBQ grill will be available; bring your own lunch.
The Arcadia ramp is located east of Shelton on the southern entrance to Hammersley Inlet. It is about 90 miles from Seattle and takes about an hour and and forty-five to travel. The parking lot at the ramp has facilities as well, and the ramp is concrete.
Maps to Arcadia Ramp are here. Take I-5 South to 101 North in Olympia, then follow the signs to Route 3 and Shelton. The first light you'll come to SE Arcadia road. Take a right, go about 7 miles and take a left on SE Lynch Road. Less than a mile later you'll arrive at the ramp.
Contact Al Gunther at a_gunther@mac.com or 360-638-1088 if you are interested in participating on one or more days this year.
Organized by Messabouters of West Oregon. See members.shaw.ca/jamie.orr/ or contact Gary Powell, 206-550-4087, for more information.
The Lake Whatcom messabout this year will be held at the other (south) end of the lake! The south end of the lake is less developed and a large part of the shoreline is public property. There is a launch ramp (relatively rudimentary; no docks) adjacent to the firehall which is my proposed rendezvous site and where there is good parking. From there I propose we set off across the lake at 11:00 a.m. sharp. We will head for an appropriate looking picnic site on the far shore which should take us something like 2 mi. There are places to get ashore but there are no sandy beaches so you may want a stern anchor. Small boats can be carried up amongst the trees. From these places we'll have good views out over the south end of the lake and, despite the presence of a trail, relatively little company ashore. Bring a picnic lunch.
Directions: Take the Alger exit (240) from I-5. Turn right from the offramp and continue straight past the boulevard stop sign (at the lovely Alger Tavern), proceeding several miles through rural countryside. You will eventually reach a fork in the road. Take the right fork, and at the nearby boulevard stop take a right again. You will be on S. Bay Drive, and the lake will be on your left. Proceed around the lake about 0.5 mile until you see the firehall."
August 27: Mystery Bay, Olympic Peninsula -- Kent Welcker, 360-568-1007.
Mystery Bay State Park is 1/4 mile past Nordlund, WA on Marrowstone Island heading toward Fort Flagler. It's about in the middle of the Island, which is only half a mile wide at that point, so you can't get lost (there is only one road that goes north and south). To get to Marrowstone from Kingston, take the Hood Canal Bridge on State Route 104 heading toward Port Angeles. Take the Port Townsend turnoff about five miles past the bridge. Turn right in Chimacum. Turn right again in Port Hadlock and follow the signs to Indian Island, turning left on to Flagler Road, crossing the bridge. Pass the naval station and continue on to Marrowstone Island. There is a fill between the two islands on the south end and the road is on top of the fill.
Or, you can take the more scenic route and turn right at the first road after the Hood Canal Bridge and follow the water through Port Ludlow, Past Mats Mats Bay and Oak Bay, turning right on Flagler Road before getting to Port Hadlock. Maps are here.
Lake Washington will be several feet lower than in summer, so hand-launched boats are preferred. The ramp is normally usable for shallow-draft boats, though.
I will bring a pot of curry. Bring any other food/drinks you may want.

From Stan Snapp April 18:
Larry Feeney, Al Gunther and Stan Snapp will arrive Friday afternoon and will be camping Friday night in a site adjacent to our reserved Shelter, the same one we had last year. We'd love to have other folks join us. Camp sites need to be reserved. Bowman's Bay Park is on the net as a part of Deception Pass State Park. We will plan to get out on the water in the late morning and then be at the shelter where Stan will cook and host a hamburger grill fest at Noon, with burgers and potato salad provided, and Larry will bring a pasta salad. Paper goods and plastic utensils will be provided. Please bring snacks and your choice of beverages. I will have water available for hydration.

From Jim July 13:
Dates for the Messabout is 17 - 19 September 2004. Jane and I provide all the food and drink for the weekend. We have a boat ramp into Hammersley Inlet for mostly small boats. Larger boats can be launched depending on the tide.
We have lots of room for vehicles and boats and kids and dogs and tents. My shop has a full bath with tub and shower.
The weekend was selected based on tide conditions. Very mild tides that will allow the launching of boats at any time of the day. Currents are mild, also. Venues include Oakland Bay, Chapman Cove, Hope Is. Squaxin Is (no trespassing), Jarrell's Cove. Just depends on how much you want to do.
Lake Washington will be several feet lower than in summer, so hand-launched boats are preferred. The ramp is normally usable for shallow-draft boats, though.
I will bring a pot of curry. Bring any other food/drinks you may want.
