From Susanne & Tom Jul 18:You are invited to our 2nd annual Small Boat Messabout
Saturday, August 15, 2009, 12:00 noon to ?
We have a launch ramp suitable for small boats, so bring your kayak, canoe, rowboat or small sailboat. Larger boats can launch at the Port of Grapeview ramp adjacent to the Fair Harbor Marina (1/2 mile south of us). Low tide is in mid morning, so we were thinking people could assemble around noon. Depending on wind and weather we have several options for destinations - a couple of neighboring coves, the town dock at Allyn, Stretch Point State Park (no facilities), Fair Harbor, or for the hardy and adventurous, Vaughn Bay. In the late afternoon, we’ll barbecue here. We'll provide burgers, dogs, buns, and chips and sodas, and folks can bring side dishes and desserts to share. High tide is late afternoon, and it will be light until late, so we'll have lots of hours for boating and fun.

- Sep 26: Curry & Oars, Lake Forest Park Civic Club -- John Weiss, 206-368-7354. See the maps.
Lake Washington will be several feet lower than in summer, so hand-launched boats are preferred. The ramp is normally usable for shallow-draft boats, though.
I will bring a pot of curry. Bring any other food/drinks you may want.
- Oct 24: Fort Worden -- Tom Regan.
From Tom, Oct 6:
Don't put the boats away for the season yet!
Laingdon Schmidt (you may recall he, Libby, and Rachael brought his yawl "Swallow" to the '08 North Bay messabout) is arranging a messabout at Fort Warden State Park for October 24th. I'm helping to get the word out.
We'll have more info very soon, but he has already reserved the picnic shelter for the whole day (with stove and fireplace). The concrete boat ramp (fee) is near the shelter, and has a nice dock. Both are well protected.
We'd like to have a big turnout of boats of all types, paddle/row/sail, so everyone is welcome. So stay tuned, and plan to come play in boats!
- Dec TBA: Annual Meeting -- Contact Gary Powell, 425-255-5067 in advance with your input for next year's event schedule.

For people who have built small craft, and for those who want to.The Center for Wooden Boats would like to invite people who have built their own boats to bring their boats down to the docks on July 25-26. This weekend event at the South Union campus of CWB will feature amateur built boats, as well as professionals who cater to the home builder (by selling plans, or products, or through teaching). The event will feature skills demonstrations on both Saturday and Sunday. This weekend event is free to the public, as well as to amateurs who want to show their home made boats. (Donations by visitors are accepted.) Professionals will be asked to pay a small fee. Any and all funds raised will go directly to CWB, though mostly it's just a chance to hang out in the warm Seattle summer sun and talk about boats.
You can learn more and register your boat to be shown at www.cwb.org/home-built-boats-weekend.
