Year 2008 Puget Sound Chapter Activities (Further details forthcoming as they evolve)
The following activities have been scheduled as of the latest update of the web site. All members are encouraged to propose, schedule, and/or sponsor "ad hoc" messabouts or meetings at any time. Indoor winter events (workshops, dinners, etc.) are also encouraged. Each of these will be posted as soon as possible after it is arranged, and members notified. Contact Gary Powell or John Weiss with your proposal.
All activities begin about 11 am Saturday, unless otherwise noted. Significant changes will be in red.
- January 26, 1 p.m.: Lake Union "Chili Row" departing from Sunnyside Ramp. RSVP to Bob Dunshee, 206-322-8846.
The Sunnyside Ramp public boat launch is located at the intersection of Sunnyside Avenue North and North Northlake Way. See the maps to the ramp and to Dunshees (bigger maps below!).
From Bob Dec 14:Marcia and I will be pleased to host the Chili Row on Lake Union again this year. Saturday, January 26, 2008
We propose that participants meet at the Sunnyside ramp at the north end of Lake Union to launch at about 1 p.m. Parking across the street from the ramp is back-in only. We have done it with our trailer many, many times. There are usually plenty of parking places, especially this time of year. We propose to row/sail/paddle clockwise around Lake Union, then come back to our house for chili at about 3:30 p.m. Bring your own drinks, please. Guests are welcome of course.
There is also usually plenty of parking on the street by our house.
Those of you (or your guests) who would like to come just for the chili are quite welcome.
May we also suggest that you RSVP to the list serve? That way others will know who’s coming and that might be useful information for them as well as for Marcia and me. Our phone number is 206 322 8846. Our address is 2600 E. Helen St. The house is a small shingle cabin on the northeast corner of 26th Ave. E. and E. Helen St.
After leaving the ramp (which is at the foot of Sunnyside Avenue), I suggest driving to our house by way of the Montlake Bridge rather than the University Bridge: it’s somewhat difficult to merge with traffic on the approach to the University Bridge. Either way will work however.
Below are 3 more maps which will show the location of our house and a suggested route from the ramp:

Map 2 (105 KB GIF)
Map 3 (98 KB GIF) -- print any or all in Landscape mode.
For those that have not been to this messabout, a little more info:
Each year we host an overnight messabout here at TRAMAC. Jane, Tom and I provide everything for the weekend: food, drink, water to play on or in, and lots of nice fireside visiting. We have extra boats for the boat challenged, even one with a motor!
We have lots of room for tents, trailers and RVs. We have a boat ramp for launching boats. Larger sailboats might be a problem if the masts are not down.
The shop has a full bathroom facility. Some folks may even choose to camp out in the shop. Dogs and kids are welcome, but there are deer and other critters that may tempt the dogs.
RSVP's would be helpful so we have an idea how many to expect, BUT last minute drop ins are OK! We know how plans get muffed. Any questions, please give us a call at 360-426-1012 or e-mail.
From Susanne March 27:We are located a half mile from the Fair Harbor Marina on Case Inlet, which has a free paved public launch ramp adjacent to it. Here at the house we can launch small hand-carried craft and small trailered boats. Larger boats can launch at Fair Harbor and come around the point to our place.
Low tide is in mid morning, so we were thinking people could assemble around noon. Depending on wind and weather we have several options for destinations - a couple of neighboring coves, the town dock at Allyn, Stretch Point State Park (no facilities), Fair Harbor, or for the hardy and adventurous, Vaughn Bay. In the late afternoon, we thought we would have a barbecue here - we'll provide burgers, dogs, buns, chips and sodas, and folks could bring side dishes to share, if they want. High tide is late afternoon, and it will be light until late, so we'll have lots of hours for boating and fun.
We'll be in the middle of a restoration of a cold-molded International 14, plus we probably will not have delivered the Rangeley Lake Boat and St Lawrence River Skiff we are currently working on.
From Seattle and Tacoma:
Drive south on I-5 through Tacoma until exit 132, Highway 16.From Bremerton:

Follow the signs to south Highway 3 - Shelton and Belfair. At Gorst, the highway splits, and the left lanes go off to Highway 16. Keep right, and exit on to the continuation of Highway 3.
Follow it for about 15 miles to Allyn, going through Belfair about halfway. See directions from Allyn, below.Continue south on Highway 3 through Allyn, admiring the old church on the left, and the large chainsaw art gallery on the right.Directions from Olympia and Shelton:

This year's TSCA annual meeting will be held in St. Michael's along with the annual Mid-Atlantic Small Craft Festival.
For information and updates, see the TSCA Events page or contact Cricket Evans at emevans@berkeley.edu or 510-652-2034 (for TSCA meeting info).
Lake Washington will be several feet lower than in summer, so hand-launched boats are preferred. The ramp is normally usable for shallow-draft boats, though.
I will bring a pot of curry. Bring any other food/drinks you may want.

The Raid brings traditional small boats and their crews from all over the world to race for seven days through the Gulf Islands, the San Juan Islands, and across the Strait of Juan de Fuca, a course of 145 km.
The Shipyard School Raid is modeled after the Great Glen Raid in Scotland, Raid Finland, the Loire River Raid, and predecessors in Portugal and Sweden. Like them, the Shipyard School Raid promotes adventure and sportsmanship in small traditional sail and rowing craft.

You are invited to join in the fun and meet other Poulsbo Boat owners, exchange ideas, and show off your pride and joy. This is also the perfect time and place to expand your knowledge of Poulsbo Boats and other small powered marine craft indicative of the earlier years on Puget Sound.
As in the past, the rendezvous will be held at the Port of Poulsbo Marina.
