Spartan Floats Again

An exciting milestone in the restoration of SPARTAN was reached in November, 2009 when the Herreshoff classic racing yacht was relaunched at the Mystic Shipyard. SPARTAN is the only remaining member of the New York Yacht Club 50 class, a sleek and powerful racing class produced by the legendary Herreshoff Manufacturing Company in Bristol, RI.

SPARTAN has been under restoration for several years at the McClave, Philbrick & Giblin (MP&G) boatyard in Mystic, CT. JGTSCA member Bruce Cresser is a highly skilled boatbuilder who has been working on the restoration.

Bruce clearly loves boats and boatbuilding. He generously shares his expertise with other club members on boat projects. In his "spare time" he works on restoration and building projects in his home workshop. Bruce is also an accomplished sailor and racer, having sailed his boat to first in its class the last two years at the Herreshoff Classic Regatta.
