Sea Scouts Assist with Pine Island Clean Up
The Sea Scouts of Ship Dragon (Groton, CT) worked
with JGTSCA members to help clean up Pine Island. The Sea
Scout Ship Dragon had at least 16 youth and 9 adults who participated.
We removed a large quantity of trash and garbage from Pine
Island - not to mention treasure, including a boat engine
tachometer and a sign.
There were a total of eight boats used in the
effort, three boats provided by "CROPC" (Connecticut
River Oar & Paddle Club), four boats from our chapter,
including the two boats built by Clark Lane middle school
students headed up by Bill Armitage with John Gardner Grant
money. The crash boat was provided by the Scouts (Patrick
Kennedy of Kennedy Marine Privateer) and was a tremendous
help transporting a large volume of trash to the shore. Several
of the newer Scouts were getting their first experience in
rowing craft and they did extremely well. We enjoyed a very
nice picnic at the clubhouse after the clean up. ShopRite
Supermarkets provided gloves, trash bags,
drinks, and cookies in support of our Earth Day efforts.
