John Gardner Chapter: May 2010 Meeting Minutes
President John Hacunda called the meeting to order at approximately
1:30 PM 5-2-2010.
Members and guests were introduced.:
Minutes:
Minutes from April 7, 2010 were approved as distributed.
Treasurer's Report:
Treasurer's report was read by Bill Armitage (balance of $2,072.31)
and approved by the membership.
Old Business:
Mystic Shipyard East Garage Cleanup occurred on April 24th.
Good progress was made on a general cleanup of the area where
the dories are stored. George Spragg installed a replacement
window on the south wall of the building. Trim replacement
was not done, George suggested that an aluminum wrap of the
existing trip would work better and indicated that he would
complete the project when he has time available.
Thanks go out to Bruce Cresser to arranging the tour of New
York 30 AMORITA at MP&G in Mystic. It is truly an amazing
undertaking.
The Rob Roy still needs to be prepped and photographed for
sale.
John Hacunda has been posting an add on Craigslist soliciting
donations for the annual tag sale which will be held on June
12, 2010 from 9am until noon.
Community Outreach
A meeting is scheduled for May 11 with the University staff
to explore implementing a boat building program for students.
Bill Armitage will provide a report at the next meeting.
The Chapter participated in the Maritime College and Career
Fair on April 21. Our presence was well received.
Pine Island Cleanup took place this morning prior to the
meeting. Lots of
people and plenty of trash. A cookout will follow the meeting.
New Business:
Groton Parks and Rec. is hosting a rowing event on May 15th
from 10AM until 1PM at Beebe Cove. The chapter has been invited
to demonstrate fixed seat rowing. Sandy, Will, John and Rob
have expressed an interest in attending. There was discussion
about rowing over from Mystic Shipyard East on the morning
of the event in an attempt to avoid parking issues.
