John Gardner Chapter: March 2008 Meeting Minutes
The John Gardner Chapter of the Traditional Small Craft Association.
Minutes for the March 2, 2008 membership meeting of the John
Gardner Chapter of the TSCA.
Pres. Behney in Avery Point Boathouse called the meeting
to order at 1:40 P.M.
Ten members were in attendance: Phil Behney, John Maxon,
John Symons, Andy Strode, Bill Armitage, Wil Iturrino, Donna
and Larry Magee, Steve Jones and George Spragg.
A motion was made, seconded and passed to accept the Secretary’s
report from the February 2008 meeting as distributed.
President Behney reported that the current bank balance was
$1,508.
Old Business:
The Snow Row was held in Hull, MA, March 2nd. Bill Armitage
and Shawn won 3rd place in the doubles class. Russell Smith
placed 5th in the work boat class
The Sea Scouts have been contacted in order to create some
rapport with our club. Phil Behney discussed helping repair
their boat and getting them to participate in the Pine Island
cleanup Earth Day celebration. Timing for the cleanup created
a conflict with them that probably can be resolved with further
discussion.
The Boathouse Upkeep and Activities:
Project Priority Established:
1. John Maxon – Fairing dory construction. March 26
target for completion
2. George Spragg – new boat started
3. Phil Behney – Avery Point dory
4. Bill Amitage – smaller version of Last Chance
5. Heather McDonald – Safe Sailor, but is considering
another design.

New Business:
Steve Jones spoke about JGTSCA outreach to the college by
making our resources available for their Marine Studies internship
program. He presented the internship handbook for our examination.
Steve invited our members to visit West Mystic Boat Yard to
see the restoration of “Annie,” an 1886 oyster
boat. Notify Pete of your presence and advance notification
is requested for group visits. He also invited us to launch
small craft there.
The next meeting will be in the Avery Pt. Boathouse, 1:30
P.M., April 6, 2008. Please attend.
