John Gardner Chapter: July 2007 Meeting Minutes
The John Gardner Chapter of the Traditional Small Craft Association.
Minutes for the July 8, 2007 membership meeting of the John
Gardner Chapter of the TSCA.
The meeting was called to order by President Spragg in the
Community Boathouse on the UConn Avery Point Campus at 1:50.
Seven members and officers were in attendance.
A motion was proposed, seconded and passed to accept the
Secretary’s Report from the June meeting, as distributed.
The Treasure’s Report for the of June April was submitted
by, Russ Smith. The balance at the beginning of May was $3824.11.
Expenses during the period were $54.25 (Tag Sale Advertising).
Income included $35 for dues and $491 from the Tag Sale. The
balance at the end of June was $4295.86. It was noted that
$300 of Tag Sale profit came from the sale of a boat which
Phil Behney arranged to have donated. A motion as proposed,
seconded and passes to accept the Treasurers report as submitted.
Old Business:
Boathouse upkeep and Activities:
Swampscott Dory has seen some activity in the past month.

Last Chance is complete and out of the shop. (Bill)
One of the Avery Point Dories is in the shop and the final
coat of paint is in the process of being applied.
Another dory is scheduled for repaint soon.
Chapter Activities:
Andy, George, Russ, John H. and Phil manned the TSCA booth
at last weeks WoodenBoat show. It appears that it was a very
successful event.
New Business:
Russ Smith and Bill Armitage will be rowing the Blackburn
Challenge on July 21. They will be paired in Last Chance,
Bill’s new fixed seat double wherry.
The Slocum River Regatta is scheduled for Sept 15. More info
at next month’s meeting.
There was discussion about what projects should be considered
for the coming fall and winter. This topic will be addressed
again in the future.
Members continue to use the dory which is over at Mystic
Shipyard East. An addition boat will be placed there soon.
Please be courteous to the marina staff – it is important
that we maintain a good relationship, since we no longer have
a member/employee at that site.
Larry Magee mentioned that there may be a catboat available
for an interested party. Further information will be forwarded
when it becomes available.
Welcome new members Jonathan Maxson, Chuck Major and John
Maxson.
Next meeting will be August 5, 2007 at 1:30 in the afternoon,
at the Boathouse.
