John Gardner Chapter: February 2011 Meeting Minutes
President John Symons called the meeting to order at 1:30pm
Introduction of members and guests:
John Hacunda (past pres.), John Symons (pres.), Bill Armitage
(treas.), Phil Behney (sec.), Scott Symons, Tim Mooney, Rob
Pittaway, George Spragg, Bruce Cresser, Brian Mitsch, Russell
Smith, and Bob Reed.
Minutes
Minutes from the January meeting were approved as distributed.
Treasurer’s Report
Treasurer’s report was read by Bill Armitage (balance
of 2,417.15) and approved by the membership.
Old Business:
2011 Dues list is posted on the Fridge
The Uncle Flatty Skiff is ready for the name and George passed
around a list of font options and attendee’s checked
off their preference. George will give the treasurer the bill.
The Symons runabout is progressing steadily and a goal of
August has been set for completion.
George’s Canoe is complete and will be removed as soon
as weather permits
Bruce Cresser will make up a list for the Chaisson dory repairs
after the meeting.
Russ will take home the gig trailer to repair and have the
clubs Dory trailer returned in time for the Pine Island cleanup.
The Dory, Jane is at the shop for use and/or maintenance.
Fund Raising Activities:
Monday March 28 will be our fundraising dinner at the “Dog
Watch Café” in Stonington, including a short
Business meeting at 7pm.
Senor Flaco’s fundraising dinner will be in May exact
day and time TBA.
Community Outreach:
Russ smith will invite Paul Roberson’s band mates to
join us for the Pine Island cleanup picnic. Russ will also
invite his group from the “Ledyard Community Boating”
program.
John Hacunda will contact the Sea Scouts and invite them
to join us again for the Pine Island clean up.
The UConn boat building class scheduled for this semester
had to be cancelled due to medical issues with the instructor.
The sale of the “Rob Roy” Canoe had no responses
from MAIB. Scott Symons offered to display the boat at his
work when the weather permits. Bill a also said he can post
it on E-bay if still no success.
New Business:
No new information on the JGTSCA’s participation at
the Wooden Boat Show at Mystic Seaport.
George Spragg will coordinate with Dana Hewson (Mystic Seaport)
when the club can visit the Rossie Mill for a viewing of the
small boat collection.
Brian Mitsch offered to share a power point presentation
of his personal boat collection and building projects at one
of our meetings. A date will be set.
Russ wants to build a dory with Ledyard Community Boating
and asked for input from our member’s.
A March 17th, St Patrick’s Day club row was suggested
and will be confirmed at the March 6th meeting if there is
enough interest.
Upcoming Events:
March 6, 2011 1:30pm – Monthly meeting, Avery Point
Boathouse.
March 12, 2011 11:00am - Snow Row, Windmill Point Boathouse,
Hull, MA. Sean Bercaw and Russ Smith plan on attending the
Snow Row.
