John Gardner Chapter: February 2008 Meeting Minutes
The John Gardner Chapter of the Traditional Small Craft Association.
Minutes for the February 3, 2008 membership meeting of the
John Gardner Chapter of the TSCA.
Pres. Behney in Avery Point Boathouse called the meeting
to order at 1:45 P.M.
Eight members were in attendance: Phil Behney, John Maxon,
John Symons, Russell Smith, Andy Strode, Bill Armitage, John
Hacunda and George Spragg.
A motion was made, seconded and passed to accept the Secretary’s
report from the January 2008 meeting as distributed.
Treasurer Smith reported on the discrepancy between the running
balance and the $4053.47 reported in Dec.’07. Chelsea
Bank will audit our account for a fee. It was voted at the
January meeting to authorize the audit. The January report
distributed states an income of $265.00 since the last meeting
with a new balance of $3428.30.

Boathouse upkeep and Activities:
Members should remember to send their 2008 membership dues.
Russell Smith met with Ledyard Parks & Recreation. They
agreed to hire him to teach rowing at Highland Lake Weds.
And Sat. using the gig and (2) sliding seat boats.
John Hacunda sent email to Westerly Sea Scouts leader for
JGTSCA involvement interest. Russ suggested we contact New
London/Groton squadron and show them our facility and what
we can provide. Also, Russell received a messag from Marshall
Parsons, (860-448-1215), skipper ot the Sea Scout Ship Dragon
for our off offer to take the the scouts out for a “Sound
Experience.”
Project Priority Established:
1. John Maxon – Faering dory construction
2. George Spragg lapstrake canoe
3. Phil Behney – Avery Point dory
4. Bill Amitage – smaller version of Last Chance
5. Heather McDonald – Safe Sailor, but is considering
another design.
It was suggested that the clubhouse be rearranged to accommodate
several projects.
The Avery Pt. Dory will be painted and skeg repaired during
warmer weather.

New Business:
The sign on west side of building needs painting; it will
be removed and updated soon.
JGTSCA is still a member of Boats U.S. so our members can
join for half price, entitling them to West Marine, fuel,
repair, overnight slip discounts and disabled boat towing.
Bill Armitage invited members to piggyback marine plywood
orders with him soon in order to get discount over (10) sheets.
George Spragg added his order and the members voted to buy
(4) 5mm sheets of for the club. Shipping cost per sheet will
be added. Members can see what they will be getting at noahsboatbuilding.com.
The next meeting will be in the Avery Pt. Boathouse, 1:30
P.M., March 2, 2008. Please attend.
