Darmuid Hanafin of Celtic Cause and Hanafin’s Irish Pub in New London launched the construction of three traditional Irish Rowing Boats. The Currachs were built at The Crocker House on State Street in New London by Master Builder Monty O’Leary from County Kerry with assistance by Lorchan Otway of New York City.

Celts and Currachs Festival

The second annual Celts and Currachs Festival was held on the New London waterfront on August 25. The festival features Celtic music, food, dance, and exhibition rowing races of traditional Irish currachs.

Experienced rowers provided instruction in rowing the currach, which is a light wood framed boat covered in tar and canvas.

Rowers were allowed to enter exhibition races to test their skills.
