Annual Lighted Truck Parade

The Fort Bragg Annual Lighted Truck Parade has become a big local event over the years, with trucks of all sizes that are decorated or towing decorated trailers, or both. It occurs on the first Saturday of December. Entries come from individuals, local businesses, and other local groups. It's another chance for us to get out and show off our boats and have a good time together. Adults and children line the streets and enjoy the parade, bundled in their warm winter clothes.

We meet down in the Harbor late afternoon, and try to be creative in festooning our boats with lights. We've done a little better job every year. One of the secrets is that there is no way to put too many lights up.

This year, Stan, Jim Blanton, and Kris did a great job with the Pamela G. A Christmas tree was erected and generously lit, with a model lighthouse in the front. Jim and Stan sat in the boat, singing Christmas carols.

Jim Swallow rigged up a mast, and used all the lights Dusty had. He and grandaughter Bailey sat in the boat and waved to wellwishers.

We still have a long way to go, if you compare us to some of the other entries, but who's comparing? and who cares? We have another chance to mess about with boats, challenge the cold, enjoy some attention, and have a grand time. It's a great way to kick off the Christmas season!

Two weeks later, members Jim McDanold, Jim Swallow, Stan Halverson, Jim Blanton, and Dusty and Linda Dillon were joined by the Noyo Harbor USCG for the second annual lighted boat parade in Noyo Harbor, Ca. Jim McDannold was inspired by a similar parade viewed in Mexico, and decided to start a local parade in Noyo Harbor, Fort Bragg, Ca. The parade started at the World's End Rowing Club dock, the home of the local TSCA chapter, and proceeded up river to the Coast Guard station and back. Many restaurant and hotel patrons came out to enjoy the event and share in the spirit of Peace On Earth. Let's hope this is the beginning of a beautiful holiday tradition. The event was filmed by Todd Cinnamon, of Resonance in Design. Enjoy his delightful video on Youtube.
