Lost Coast Chapter Sponsors Another Boatbuilding Course, May 21 through June 9, 2012

For more information contact Ejler

Lost Coast Chapter TSCA will sponsor the building of a 20' Doghole dory by local boatbuilder and teacher at the James Krenov Fine Woodworking Program in Ft. Bragg California, Ejler Hjorth-Westh. This will be the second sponsored by this Chapter and one of many in a long line of excellent and seaworthy coastal rowing craft designed by the builder.

Students pay $700 for the three week class, where the doghole dory is built from scratch. All phases of boatbuilding are covered. Students, many of them graduates from the Fine Woodworking Program, complete the boat with two sets of oars, rudder, and floor boards.

.

Hull design, planking, steambending, riveting, along with oar making, will be covered, among the countless aspects of boat building.

Craftmanship and attention to detail, using the proper tools and procedures, comprise the path to a beautifully crafted and seaworthy boat.

Launch day: a day of pride and accomplishment on the part of the builders, and a day of pride and appreciation on the part of the new owner.
